Pre-Pregnancy Gynecological Evaluation

During your first visit, we check your status with regards to infectious diseases, which can have a deleterious impact on the development of the fetus during pregnancy. These notorious infections include rubella, chicken pox, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. We may also check your and your partner’s blood group, and Rh factor. A Pap Smear may also be taken to rule out any cervical abnormalities

Your past illnesses including any regular medications for the illness, etc. should be discussed with your doctor. Some health problems should be completely under control, some other problems need a change of medication, and still some other problems need further evaluation from concerned specialists and fitness from that particular specialist before you attempt for a pregnancy to optimize the success of pregnancy and well-being of both mother and fetus.

Dietary Supplements

Preconception vitamins for the wife is prescribed and vitamin for the husband is also prescribed, where necessary.

There is increasing evidence that male partners especially those who smoke can damage the sperm caused by toxic substances liberated from the smoke which in turn can cause fertility problems.  Advise regarding healthy living such as type of diet, exercise, stopping alcohol and smoking are given.

Management of Weight

Desirable optimum weight has got a long-term impact on your healthy life as well as on your chance of getting pregnant and also for the best outcome of your pregnancy. Maintenance of desirable weight is not only important for your preconception period but for your long-term health also. It is shown that excessive weight can cause disturbances in ovulation from the female side and can also hurt semen parameters on the partner’s side.
